This documentary explores how the financial crash of 2008 is linked with a historical cycle that included events such as 1637’s Tulip Mania and the South Sea Bubble of 1720. Working with the theory that there is an inherent and inseparable human influence on finance, this film brings to life its argument with puppetry, animation and contributions from eminent journalists and academics. It also raises the question of what practical lessons we can take from history- and whether these should inform how economics is taught to today’s students.
This film about US high finance made ruthless corporate moneyman Gordon Gekko one of cinema's great villains, even idolised by some bank executives.
