Synopsis

When an exploration assignment to Mars is struck by a violent storm, the crew is forced to abandon the mission- leaving behind astronaut Mark Watney, who is presumed dead. Alone in a harsh environment and with dwindling resources, Mark is forced against the odds to find a way of signaling back to Earth that he is in need of rescue. A tense waiting game emerges as NASA scientists and his former crew attempt ambitious rescue strategies for ‘The Martian’, knowing they have a slim chance of success…

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
