The disturbing reality of modern-day piracy is explored in this gripping action thriller, based on a true story, about the 2009 seizure of the Maersk Alabama. It was the first American-flagged cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Adapted from the memoir of the vessel’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips, the fast-moving tale bristles with tension, as it depicts Phillips’s sharp-witted battle for survival after Somali pirates board the Maersk Alabama during its journey to Kenya. Led by the determined Muse, these hard-boiled bandits are interested in the big money they can get from kidnapping Westerners, forcing Phillips to offer himself as their hostage to save his crew.
After a Danish tanker is hijacked by Somali pirates, a tug of war between pirates and corporation develops, with the crew stuck in the middle.
