Synopsis

From acclaimed Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu comes this bleak drama, set in the grimy, crowded parts of Barcelona. Devoted single father Uxbal is silently suffering with a terminal disease while trying to reconcile with his unhinged and unpredictable ex-wife. A mid-level criminal underworld figure, his main business is in the black market sweatshop labour of illegal immigrants. Tension between his job's unethical demands and the desperate need to secure a future for his children builds as his death nears, along with the glimmering prospect of spiritual redemption. Ethereal and moving, Biutiful is a unique cinema experience.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
