Synopsis
Based on science-fiction writer Ray Bradbury's novel about a future society in which all literature is destroyed, this was French director Françoise Truffaut's only English-language film. Shot in Britain, the film stars Oskar Werner as Montag, a fireman ordered to burn books (the title refers to the temperature at which paper turns to ash), and Julie Christie takes two roles: as Montag's wife and a teacher who prompts Montag to doubt the morality of his job. A stylish, thought-provoking fable of the resilience of independent thought in an oppressive society.
