Dissatisfied teenager Winnie falls in love while walking in the woods. But the boy she falls for is Jesse, one of the Tuck family, who have drunk from the spring of everlasting life. Director Jay Russell (The Water Horse) has made a pretty faithful dramatisation of Natalie Babbitt's well-loved 1975 novel, and turned it into an enjoyable children's fantasy that looks on death and immortality, tradition and progress.
