Reviving the kind of slapstick popular in the 1920s, this glossy caper introduced the world to the bumbling Detective Inspector Clouseau. At first it looks like a rather routine heist film set among the beautiful people, with David Niven as the Raffles-style international jewel thief. So it's a stroke of genius to let Peter Sellers' cretinous, outrageously-accented character loose and watch him wreck everything, including audience expectations, creating a comedy classic in the process.
Contains mild, comic sex references and mild slapstick.
