Synopsis
This documentary, based on the acclaimed non-fiction book by Peter Biskind, is about American cinema in the late-1960s and 70s, a time of experimentation and risk-taking that brought an edgier style of film-making into the mainstream. Using archive footage and interviews with the likes of Dennis Hopper and Arthur Penn, this shows how the commercial success of Easy Rider enabled the "movie brats", such as Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese, to bring their youthful, uncompromising vision to a wider audience, eventually leading, somewhat surprisingly, to the era of the blockbuster.
