Dawn Wiener is regarded as a freak by the other kids at school, and treated as one by her family. But rather than going for gloomy drama, Welcome to the Dollhouse uses Dawn's situation as the source of some very twisted comedy. It is also a brutally truthful movie: when Dawn suddenly has a bit of social power of her own, does she treat those that are now beneath her with kindness?
