Below are the resources for our The Film Essay training session. You can download the PowerPoint presentation, which contains activities and film clips, as well as some guidance notes and worksheets to help you conduct the session.

This resource is designed to help teachers guide learners through the process of creating a film essay. A film essay presents an argument, explores a topic, problem or theme, or analyses an issue through the application of cinematic techniques in the creation of a structured film.

The Film Essay resource is for use with learners aged 11 and over, and boasts differentiated worksheets for differing ability levels. It is comprised of the below teachers' notes document, split up into the Think, Plan, Create, Exhibit and Evaluate process. There is also an accompanying The Film Essay PowerPoint presentation and The Film Essay Toolkit with worksheets for young people to complete as they produce their film essays.

What our Project Coordinator says

"It’s been amazing to see teachers grow in confidence and develop a creative approach to the curriculum using film. I’ve seen teachers begin this project with no prior experience in using film literacy or curricular filmmaking, to having just delivered their own CPD session to their staff in these areas."

- Nichola Clarke, Teacher Development Project Coordinator, Into Film, Belfast
