The free Career Spotlight Panels webinar series from the Film & TV Educators Network is back. Designed to help educators bridge the gap between industry and education, the autumn series will be delivered in partnership with Into Film. The series highlights key roles in the UK screen industries facing skills shortages, providing invaluable insights for teachers and careers advisors looking to enrich their curriculum and guide students into in-demand careers. Each session focuses on a different role or department, bringing together a panel of educators, as well as early-career and senior industry experts.
Production Management
Production management encompasses a wide variety of different roles and entry points into the screen industries. They look after the operational side of production, making sure projects run on time and on budget, with roles that could suit students who want to bring together both creative and project management and organisation skills. Workforce research from ScreenSkills (March 2025) revealed skills shortages in production management for high-end TV, including production secretary and line producer roles.
This session will focus on production management in unscripted television, programmes which don't start with a script and focus on real people (rather than actors). This includes reality television, documentaries, game shows and factual entertainment.
Our panel will include:
- Scarlett Heisel, production secretary and executive team assistant at Universal Television Alternative Studios (UTAS UK). She began as an intern on The Real Housewives of London and now holds a permanent role helping the executives of the company and shows currently in production.
- Poppy Coggins, Head of Production Management at London Screen Academy. Her credits include Channel 5’s Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother, ITV’s The All New Monty, and BBC One’s Pointless.
They will discuss:
- the structure and hierarchy of the production management department in unscripted TV
- key skills required in this area, as well as routes into the role
- connections with the film/media curricula to improve student productions and career prospects.
This session is aimed at film/media teachers and careers advisors.
