Developed by the British Film Institute (BFI) in partnership with the Film Costumes in Action project (FCiA), this course brings the fascinating history of film costume to life for learners.

From the earliest days of cinema to today’s film industry, curators trace key developments in costume through designs, stills and films from the collections of the BFI National Archive. You’ll also be introduced to the wide-ranging roles and responsibilities of a contemporary costume team, and be inspired by those working in the industry today.

While learning with us, you’ll gain access to a curated selection of film content, bespoke videos, expert guidance and downloadable resources to support your teaching back in the classroom.

In this course you’ll be introduced to:

  • A history of British film costume
  • The BFI National Archive and its collections
  • How costume design works today
  • Real life experiences shared by industry professionals
  • Activities you can use to support learning and inspire creativity
  • Resources to support planning and the development of ideas

You'll need to be logged into your Into Film account to access this course. If you don't have an account, it’s FREE to join and it only takes a moment to sign up!
