Youth Advisory Council (YAC) meeting - October 2025

The Into Film Youth Advisory Council (YAC) launched its first in-person meetup of the academic year at the iconic BFI Southbank in London, bringing together passionate young film enthusiasts from across England.

Members aged 14-18 from across England - including regional councils in The North, Midlands, and the South - gathered to share ideas, explore the future of film, and discuss the role of artificial intelligence in the screen industries.

The YAC, established by Into Film to amplify youth voices in shaping its work, strives to provide a unique platform for young people to influence film education and industry engagement. During the meetup, the young people delved into conversations about emerging technologies, including AI's impact on filmmaking.

Beyond tech and trends, the cohort explored their own personal goals for the year ahead detailing why they signed up to be a member of the YAC and what being a part of something like this means to them.

It's tied things together and is a starting point of me realising what I want to do career wise.

Beth, aged 18, from Manchester, on being part of the YAC

"The opportunities it gives you - we did a Q&A with Locations last year and that was a really good opportunity. It lets you see sides [of the screen industries] that you wouldn't think about normally", said Beth, aged 18, from Manchester, who is in her second year of being part of the YAC. "Alongside other stuff I'm doing it's tied things together and is a starting point of me realising what I want to do career wise."

Many expressed hopes of gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and contributing ideas that will shape Into Film's resources, events, and competitions in the months and years to come. Members also highlighted the importance of collaboration and representation, aiming to make film culture more reflective of diverse voices.

I'm really looking forward to the events planned and meeting some industry professionals, as well as gaining some practical experience and working alongside young like-minded people.

Jacob, age 16, from Reading

The YAC meets online each term, with at least one in-person gathering annually. We support members with travel costs and accessibility needs, ensuring every voice can be heard. At the end of the year, participants receive a certificate recognizing their contributions - a valuable addition to future education and career applications.

As the new cohort embarks on its journey, one thing is clear: the future of film is in passionate, creative hands.
