I expected to enjoy this film and I did - but in a completely different way!
Soskay is a small boy living in a pretty normal world with his mother. His father is away and doesn't make as much contact as his mother would like. Whilst by the sea, Soskay discovers a fish trapped in a bottle - Ponyo. However Ponyo is interested in Soskay's world and wants to become human, which causes no end of trouble!
I would describe this film in three words: Cute, Funny, Imaginative. The story was loosely based on one of The Little Mermaid, but at the same time it was so different to anything I'd every seen before. Some parts were very exciting although bits didn't have a lot happening. However, it was a good chance to develop the characters and their personalities and I think they took that opportunity because by the end of the film, I felt like I knew each character personally.
I would recomend this film to everyone; it is rated a U but I guarantee that every member of the family with be laughing and crying along with young children! A must see Japanese blockbuster!
