In a gloomy Victorian village, a nervous young man called Victor is preparing to marry Victoria, a kind-hearted young woman he has only just met through their families’ arranged match. When the wedding rehearsal goes badly, Victor wanders into the woods to practise his vows and accidentally ends up proposing marriage to Emily, a long-dead bride whose grave he disturbs, who promptly claims him as her husband. Swept into the strange but surprisingly jolly Land of the Dead, Victor finds himself caught between an eternal afterlife beside Emily and a lost future with his original wife-to-be Victoria, who is left anxious and alone. He hatches a plan to return to the Land of the Living, only to encounter further obstacles and drama. An enchanting tale with a spooky gothic feel, musical numbers and dancing skeletons, this stop-motion animation by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Tim Burton explores themes of romance and loyalty and in a funny yet macabre tone.
