Synopsis

In a kingdom of cats that looks very much like feudal Japan, the evil Shogun Ika Chu plots to expand his lavish palace by destroying the nearby village. He appoints Hank, a sweet but rather clumsy dog as their samurai protector, trusting that he’ll do a rubbish job. Plus, everybody knows that cats hate dogs. Facing hostility and self-doubt, Hank finds a reluctant mentor in former samurai Jimbo, who teaches him that way of the warrior. The young dog must overcome prejudice and win over the feline villagers before Ika Chu wipes out their town. Loosely inspired by western spoof Blazing Saddles, this action-packed and hilarious animated adventure explores courage, friendship, and the idea that heroes come in all shapes and species.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
