Written, directed, and produced by Wright, HIGHWAY TO THE MOON (25mins) follows the experiences of young Black men whose lives have been tragically cut short. Set in a fantasy world between Heaven and Earth, the film is a moving coming-of-age drama exploring themes of brotherhood, unity, forgiveness, and hope.

Wright created the film in response to London's escalating knife crime epidemic, aiming to provoke urgent dialogue around its roots. She describes HIGHWAY TO THE MOON as a "love letter to young Black men all over the world."

Speaker

With a career spanning over a decade, Emmy-nominated Letitia Wright has established herself as one of the most compelling talents of her generation. From her breakout role as Chantelle in Top Boy and her searing performance in Black Mirror, to her unforgettable portrayal of Shuri in Marvel's Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, Wright has brought depth and vitality to some of the most defining screen moments of the last ten years.

In 2019, she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of Black Panther's record-breaking ensemble, with the film going on to gross over $1.3 billion worldwide and earn a historic Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. She continued her momentum in 2020 with Steve McQueen's acclaimed anthology series Small Axe, playing activist and British Black Panther leader Altheia Jones-LeCointe in Mangrove, a performance that earned her a BAFTA nomination for Leading Actress.

Driven by a passion for storytelling that resonates, Wright launched her own independent production company, 3.16 Productions, in 2020dedicated to creating impactful, meaningful work both in front of and behind the camera.

This event will see Letitia present her directorial debut, Halfway to the Moon - a testament to her vision, artistry, and commitment to shaping the future of cinema. Letitia will speak about the making of the film and answer questions from students.
